The burglary took place in New Haven County in Naugatuck around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Osborn Road after a homeowner returned home for the evening and interrupted a burglary in progress, said the Naugatuck Police.

At first, officers believed the three men were still inside and armed, so additional officers and police K9 were requested. Following an investigation, it was discovered the men had already left the area, police said.

Naugatuck police continue to maintain a heavy presence in the area, but there is no threat to the community at this time, the department said.

"A preliminary investigation indicates that this was not a random occurrence, but that the victim may have been targeted," they said.

The scene was turned over to Naugatuck detectives for further evidence processing and the investigation remains ongoing.
